This kit is commonly used demonstrate the causative organism of leprosy. The MasterTech Fite’s Stain Kit differs from similar kits or procedures in that Advanced Carbol Fuchsin™ (ACF) is used instead of a standard Carbol Fuchsin and Light Green is used as a counterstain instead of Methylene Blue. In comparison to standard Carbol Fuchsins, MasterTech ACF™ requires no heat and has a much shorter staining time by combining all three fuchsin dyes. Light Green is a much better counterstain than Methylene Blue, as it provides higher contrast against the red stained bacteria. Advanced Carbol Fuchsin™ serves as the primary stain, producing red bacteria against a blue background counterstained by Light Green.

Fibrin is a fibrous insoluble protein produced in response to bleeding and is the primary constituent of a blood clot. In the MasterTech’s Carstair’s Stain Kit, Ponceau-Fuchsin Solution serves as the primary stain producing bright red fibrin and red muscle. Aniline Blue Solution, Modified Mayer’s Hematoxylin, and Picric Acid-Orange G serve as secondary stains, producing blue platelets, bright blue collagen, blue nuclei, and yellow to red blood cells. If tissue is fixed for less than 48 hours, fibrin stains orange to orange red, muscle red, platelets light gray, collagen bright blue, red blood cells red, green, or yellow, and nuclei blue.

This kit contains a specially formulated Nuclear Fast Red that reduces flocculation, not found in similar stain kits on the market. This greatly reduces staining artifacts and debris. Alcian Blue serves as the primary stain, producing vibrant blue stained mucins with the pink to red nuclei counterstained by Nuclear Fast Red. There is no filtration required when using MasterTech Nuclear Fast Red.

This kit includes a 15 minute microwave procedure and the traditional one hour and thirty minute procedure. The MasterTech G.M.S. Staining Kit is suitable in lieu of and comparable to the Grocott Methenamine Silver Technique. The MasterTech G.M.S. Stain Kit differs from this technique through the use of a stabilized, pre-measured Methenamine Silver Compound, instead of Methenamine Borate, Hexamine, or Silver Nitrate Solutions. This benefits the end user through ease of use and a longer shelf life. A Methenamine Silver Developer Solution serves as the primary stain, with Gold Chloride toning the tissue sections, producing gray to black fungi and Pneumocystis jirovecii against a green background counterstained with Light Green.

Picro-Sirius Red serves as the primary stain producing red collagen and yellow muscle, with black nuclei stained by Weigert's Hematoxylin.
