MasterTech Special Stain Kits
- Alkaline Congo Red Amyloid Kit/EaItem # : KTACRStains for amyloid deposits in less than 15 minutes.
This kit is commonly used to stain for primary, secondary, myeloma-associated, or tumor-associated amyloidosis. Alkaline Congo Red Solution serves as the primary stain, producing pink to red amyloid deposits with blue nuclei counterstained by Hematoxylin.
- Myofibrillar ATPase Stain Kit /EachItem # : KTATPStains for the two types of muscle fibers and their subtypes in 50 minutes.
Traditional ATPase procedures employ the use of a barbiturate buffer, which is a controlled substance. American MasterTech’s Myofibrillar ATPase Stain Kit contains no barbiturates! In the MasterTech’s Myofibrillar ATPase Stain Kit a predominance of Type 1 fiber types typically indicates a myopathic condition, such as dystrophy, while a predominance of Type 2 fibers typically indicates a neuropathic condition. Type 1 Buffer stains small type 1 fibers black and type 2C fibers grey. Type 1&2BC Buffer stains small type 1 fibers black, 2B and 2C fibers grey to black. Type 2AB Buffer stains type 2A and 2B fibers black.
- JONES BASEMENT MEMB PINT KIT /EachItem # : KTJONPTStains basement membrane and reticulum fibers in just 20 minutes.
This kit includes a 20 minute microwave procedure and the traditional one hour and thirty minute procedure. This kit is suitable in lieu of and comparable to the Periodic Acid/Methenamine Silver Procedure for Basement Membranes. The MasterTech Jones Stain Kit differs from this procedure by using Nuclear Fast Red as a counterstain instead of Light Green, which provides better contrast. A Methenamine Silver Developer Solution serves as the primary stain, with Gold Chloride toning the tissue sections, producing gray to black basement membranes and reticulum fibers against a pink to red background with red nuclei, counterstained by Nuclear Fast Red. There is no filtration required when using MasterTech Nuclear Fast Red.
- McDONALD'S GRAM PINT STAIN KIT /EaItem # : KTMGSPTStains for gram positive and gram negative bacteria in less than five minutes.
This kit is suitable in lieu of and comparable to the Brown and Brenn, Brown and Hopps, and Modified Gram Methods for staining gram positive and gram negative bacteria. The MasterTech Gram Stain Kit® differs from these procedures in that Carbol Fuchsin is used instead of Saffranin which intensifies the stains. The kit is also safer to use than the traditional procedures because the hazardous Gallegos Differentiating Solution and picric acid/acetone is eliminated. The results are identical to the Brown & Brenn stain without the exposure to hazardous chemicals. Both Gentian Violet and Carbol Fuchsin serve as the primary stains, producing blue gram positive bacteria and red gram negative bacteria against a yellow background, counterstained by Optimized Tartrazine which provides more intense staining in less time than traditional Tartrazine formulations.
- IRON GALLON STAIN KIT /EaItem # : KTIROGALStains ferric iron in under 30 minutes.
This kit is suitable in lieu of and comparable to the Perl’s Technique and Gomori’s Iron Reaction for staining ferric iron. The MasterTech Iron Stain is less hazardous than these procedures and provides more precise results by using lower strength Hydrochloric Acid and Potassium Ferrocyanide. A Working Prussian Blue Solution serves as the primary stain, producing blue ferric iron against a pink to red background with red nuclei, counterstained by Nuclear Fast Red. There is no filtration required when using MasterTech Nuclear Fast Red.
- MICROWAVE COPPER PINT STAIN KIT/EaItem # : KTMCOPTStains for copper in just 10 minutes.
This kit includes a 10 minute microwave procedure and the traditional 18 hour procedure. Rhodanine Stock Solution serves as the primary stain, producing light brown to red cytoplasmic copper granules with blue nuclei counterstained by Hematoxylin.
- ALCIAN BLUE 1.0pH STAIN KIT /EaItem # : KTABP1Stains strongly sulfated mucins (mucosubstances) blue in 40 minutes.
This kit contains a specially formulated Nuclear Fast Red that reduces flocculation, not found in similar stain kits on the market. This greatly reduces staining artifacts and debris. Alcian Blue serves as the primary stain, producing vibrant blue stained mucins with the pink to red nuclei counterstained by Nuclear Fast Red. There is no filtration required when using MasterTech Nuclear Fast Red.
- ONESTEP TRICHROME BLU/RED LT KT/EaItem # : KTTRBLTStains for collagen and muscle in one hour and 15 minutes.
The MasterTech One-Step Trichrome Kit makes staining for collagen or muscle, fast and easy. Unlike traditional one-step procedures, Modified Mayer's Hematoxylin is used instead of Weigerts Hematoxylin, eliminating the need for unnecessary steps, while making this kit ready-to-use. One Step Trichrome serves as the primary stain, producing pink to red cytoplasm, intercellular fiber, keratin, and muscle, blue or green collagen, and mucus, depending on the Trichrome color chosen, and blue nuclei stained by Mayer’s Hematoxylin.
- Chicago Sky Blue Stain Kit/Ea.Item # : KTCSBStains for dermatomycoses, such as pityriasis versicolor and dermatophytosis, in as little as 30 minutes.
Dermatomycoses, also known as superficial mycoses, are fungal infections that are found in the outermost layers of the skin and hair. The most common technique in diagnosing dermatomycoses uses a potassium hydroxide (KOH) wet mount procedure. This technique is quick, provides no color, and requires trained professionals to interpret the results.
In the MasterTech Chicago Sky Blue Stain Kit, the Chicago Sky-Blue Stain (CSB Stain) highlights the fungal elements blue against a colorless to pink background stained by the potassium hydroxide (KOH). This provides a strong color contrast that results in a quick, easy, and reliable way to diagnose dermatomycoses. Just scrape suspected skin cells onto a microscope slide, use one drop each of the Chicago Sky-Blue Stain and the potassium hydroxide (KOH), coverslip, and in as little as thirty minutes, the slide is ready to be viewed under the microscope!
- MASSON'S 2000 TRICHROME PT KIT/EaItem # : KTMTR2PTStains for collagen and muscle in less than 30 minutes.
Trichrome stains are commonly used to identify increases in collagenous tissue to assist in the diagnosis of diseases such as liver cirrhosis. This kit includes a 40 minute microwave procedure and the traditional two hour procedure. The Masson’s 2000 Stain Kit is a low hazard alternative to the traditional Masson’s Trichrome Stain Kit which uses Bouin’s Fluid. Instead, a specially formulated Bouin's 2000™ is used, that is free of both formaldehyde and picric acid. Biebrich Scarlet/Acid Fuchsin and Aniline Blue serve as the primary stains, producing red cytoplasm, intercellular fiber, keratin, and muscle, blue collagen and mucus with purple to black nuclei, counterstained by Weigert’s Hematoxylin.
